Marisa & Justin | Maternity

It’s both nerve wracking and extremely exciting when one of your best friends asks you to take her maternity photos. I’m so proud of this gorgeous mama! Baby Jack graced us with his presence on December 31 2015 and he was 9 lbs 7 oz & 21 inches long.

I got to meet him when he was two weeks old, and he was pretty much the most chill baby ever and just slept the whole time. ( Which is great for me because I don’t always know what to do when they cry, ha ha!) I’m very excited for you guys, congrats on becoming parents!

Annelise & Kris | Miquelon Lake/Camrose Wedding

In September, I headed out to an adorable little church in the country with my friend Taylor Kanary as my sidekick for the day.

I photographed Annelise & Kris’ engagement session in October 2014 at Miquelon Lake, and it was awesome! It was so easy to get genuine photos of them, and I got so many adorable shots of them laughing, which are my favourite.

When I found out that they were going to do a first look on their wedding day, I was even more excited, because I knew that Kris would have such a great expression when he saw Annelise. Anytime I was around them, I could tell that they just love eachother so much, I’m pretty sure I had a goofy grin on my face their entire wedding day, ha ha.

Thank you two so much for having us photograph your wedding, it was an absolute joy to be a part of.

Robyn & Oliver | Westlock County Wedding

This past June, on what was probably the hottest day of the year, I captured an absolutely ADORABLE backyard wedding. Robyn was such a sweetheart, and so understanding when I kind of got horribly lost trying to find her Mom & Step Dad’s acreage! Oliver is from Australia and a lot of his family travelled very far to attend the wedding, unfortunately I was not the only one who got lost! 😛

As Lauren, the  maid of honour, said in her speech, Robyn has always been more concerned about others than herself, and it was so easy to see that any time I interacted with her. Both Robyn and Oliver are surrounded by such amazing and supportive family members, and everyone was so friendly!

Thank you for having me capture your big day for you, it was awesome.

Beethoven

It has been pretty quiet around here! I’m not going to lie I have been putting off writing this post. I have wanted to for awhile, but I figured maaaybe if I wait a bit I might not be bawling my eyes out while I am writing.

As most of you might know (if you don’t, you’re about to find out!) I love animals. Recently, I had to do one of the hardest things I have ever done. I had to say goodbye to my kitty who I have had since I was four years old. Aaaand cue the water works. Ha ha. Don’t worry, I will keep this short and sweet.

Beethoven (named after the composer; my sister was taking piano lessons at the time) was the nicest cat ever. We were always worried that if he ever ran away whoever found him would keep him because he was so friendly and affectionate. As I mentioned, my older sister named him. He was originally meant to be for her (and the family of course) but he kinda loved me the most. He would always meow and get cranky if I was gone for long periods of time. When I was little I would dress him up in doll clothes and carry him around like a baby, and it didn’t bother him one bit. He always loved to be held. It was really funny actually, he would meow because he wanted attention sometimes, and as soon as you picked him up he would immediately start purring. Sometimes you would just look at him and he would start purring his weird, squeaky, broken-engine-sounding purr.

I also used to let him sleep on my pillow, right next to my head when I was younger. As I got older that started to get annoying but I always had an extra pillow beside mine for him to sleep on. I won’t go into too much detail, but he was 18 years old, and for the past couple months he had been sick on and off because his teeth were getting yucky. Needless to say we thought it would be silly to put him to sleep to have them cleaned since he was so old. He was just too little and too old to fight it, so we had to make the decision to euthanize him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. I’m just happy that he won’t be sick anymore and can be in kitty heaven (where they apparently get to eat tuna every day, according to my fiance, Luke).

Here are some images I captured of Beethoven.

A little while back I also had a fellow cat lover take some photos of Beethoven and I. I actually started tearing up when I looked at them. Thank you so much Taylor of Kanary Photography for doing this for me. I will cherish these images forever. You are the best.

Michelle & Chris | Edmonton Wedding

I was lucky enough to photograph this wedding alongside Franklin Photographs. I was SO excited when I messaged Duane and he asked if I would like to come second shoot with him. He is a very talented photographer, and an awesome guy.

I got to photograph the guys getting ready, and every so often Chris would exhale/sigh sort of loudly because he was nervous and excited. I got the biggest smile on my face when Michelle did the same thing right before the ceremony began. I could feel their excitement, and it made it such a joy to be able to photograph their special day. Thanks again to Duane for having me come along!

Connie–2014 Grad

I am super excited to share more of this session! I was flattered when she asked if I would do some photos for her on her graduation day, and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

Congratulations on graduating Connie! Can’t wait to see what life has in store for you. Thank you for letting me capture this special day for you and your family.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Thesis)

I have been wanting to share about my Thesis project from last semester for quite some time now. Thesis is a semester long project we had to do in the beginning of second year at NAIT. Basically, we had to pick a topic, and create 15 images based on that topic.

As soon as I heard about it when I was in first year, I immediately began trying to think of ideas for what I would do for mine, since it sounded like it was going to be a lot of work. By the end of first year, I still didn’t have a clue what to do. Over the summer I finally figured out that I want to be a wedding and portrait photographer, because that’s what I love to photograph. I wanted my thesis project to be something that would challenge me creatively, but still involve some form of portraiture. However I still didn’t have any ideas. Finally, I pretty much had an epiphany. I never thought this would actually happen. I was on my lunch break at work and I wasn’t feeling very well so I had my head resting on the table. For some reason I began to think about when I was in high school and one of my teachers dressed up as Gambit from the X-men. If you don’t know who that is, you should read this. He is pretty cool. Anyways, the costume he had was awesome, spot on. As soon as he walked into the room I was like “YES, that is a sweet costume!” A lot of my classmates didn’t know who he was, which was sort of depressing to me. I don’t read a ton of comic books, but I am a bit of a Marvel nerd.

Anyways, back to my epiphany. So I was thinking about the awesome Gambit costume, and that was when the light bulb went off. I sat up and was like “THAT’S IT! That is what I will do for my thesis!” I know, I know, it sounds really cheesy, but it was honestly a pretty epic moment for me. Just picture me, being all sad because I’m not feeling good, and then I get this brilliant idea, and I slowly lift my head up from the table, and in my mind I’m jumping up and down from excitement.

My original idea was to do 15 different Marvel heroes, but after awhile I realized it could be really stressful to find all the models and costumes and whatnot. SO I decided to focus on my favourite hero: Spider-Man. Don’t get me wrong, not everyone thinks he is the coolest, I get a lot of people hating on me for my love of Spidey. But he has been my favourite for as long as I can remember. (Back to when I would watch the cartoons with my younger brother.) AND, I think it is neat that Peter Parker is a photographer as well. I just find it to be a really cool story. So that was my plan, to tell his story.

For me, that involved some hard work, including some intense photoshopping, new things I had never done before, AND, handling a live tarantula. Which is something I have always wanted to do because I thought it would be terrifying. But I managed to face my fear, and I actually find tarantulas fascinating now.

Here are some of my favourite images!
CameraSwingingfrombuildingsUnzipUpsidedown

This last image, as well as the second one up top, were the ones that required some photoshopping I had never done before, they are both composite images. My good friend Cody was the model for both of them, he operates heavy equipment. So to take the images of just him swinging from the rope and hanging upside down on it, we actually brought his bobcat into his shop, took the bucket off, lifted it up as high as it would go and tied the rope to it. Here is what our set up looked like. Needless to say, it was quite the adventure.

photo 1
First we actually left the bucket on, but as he was swinging the edge started to cut the rope…so we had to change things up a bit.
photo 3

Don’t mind my crappy iphone photos! And yes…we did actually hang the light upside down like that. Ha ha!

I never would have dreamed I could create a photograph of Spider-Man swinging from buildings if it weren’t for my wonderful boyfriend Luke. Thank you so much for your input and support throughout this, and believing that I could pull it off!
And thank you so much to my models Cody, Matt, Ciaran, and Rosie the tarantula. Last but not least, thanks to all my classmates, and my instructor Shaun Scade for all your help. I appreciate you all so much.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read, I hope you enjoyed it.
